Fabric Suggestions Needed for Convertible Dress

I was super excited when I found this fabulous pattern for a one seam convertible dress by Rowena of Rostitchery (click here to see the dress).
Even though I have been to several stores, I am still searching for a suitable fabric. Ideally, I need a stretchy/non-cling jersey that looks the same on both sides and cuts evenly so I don’t have to hem the edges. I found a nice silk jersey at Gail K, but I’m not feeling the $22/yard price tag (I need 4 yards). I’m looking for something less …

My July 2010 Burda Picks

I’m always excited when my Burda magazine arrives every month, but lately, I haven’t really been feeling inspired by the designs. My issue arrived today and I’m still feeling lukewarm about it. I won’t bother posting the foolywag designs because that’s already been done and I’m ready to shut it down for the night. Besides, the bejeweled vest and awful harem-inspired cropped sweatpants don’t deserve any more attention.  Here are my picks from the July 2010 magazine:
This tank top is super cute!

I like it better than the dress below, but …

McCall’s $.99 Pattern Sale at Hobby Lobby!

After I left Fabric World this evening, I stopped by Hobby Lobby to check out the fabric selection. This store has cute cotton print fabrics, but I couldn’t really envision myself sewing anything from the available selection. On my way out, I was excited to stumble upon an unexpected $.99 McCall’s pattern sale. This is only my second time shopping at Hobby Lobby, so I didn’t even realize that they sold sewing patterns.
I picked up a few of the new summer patterns, including M6118, which was sold out on my …

My Second Trip to Fabric World

I was so excited when I unexpectedly drove by Fabric World in Stone Mountain (Georgia) on my way to the veterinarian last year (they don’t allow pets so I had to go back another day to check it out). The store is spacious and has tons of inexpensive fabric. Most of the fashion fabrics are only $2.99 or $1.99 per yard and they also have a large selection of upholstery fabrics, which are $3.99/yard.

This is only my second trip to Fabric World. I decided to go today because I wanted …

New Vintage 1976 Dress Pattern from Etsy! (S7805)

The final pattern from my recent Etsy order arrived from Canada today in good condition (uncut)! I’ve been checking my mailbox religiously every day. I love the wrap bodice and cap sleeves.  Aside from the back zipper, the instructions are super easy and I think this will sew up quickly. I’m definitely leaning towards making the shorter version.

How Jillian Michaels (personal trainer from “The Biggest Loser”) is helping me end my pattern fitting drama

OMG. My abs are killing me today! I finally unwrapped “No More Trouble Zones” yesterday and Jillian Michaels is no joke! I hate to admit that I barely made it through the video…lol… I’ve always been active and I am a former aerobics instructor (until I injured my knee), so this was kind of a blow to my ego. This video is AWESOME! Overall, I like the exercises in this video better than 30 Day Shred, which has too many high impact moves that strain my knees (I had surgery in …

I Love It When the Mailman Brings Me Goodies from Etsy!

Yippee! The mailman delivered 3 more Vintage patterns from Etsy today! I watched him put the patterns in my mailbox this afternoon but forced myself to wait until dinner to retrieve them so I wouldn’t get distracted from my work. This actually took a great deal of restraint because my sewing pattern addiction is out of control.

McCalls 7839
This 1965 pattern appealed to me because I want to sew a classic shirt dress pattern. I like the A-line and pencil skirts, but I think I prefer the short sleeved version better …

New Books!: “Sew What! Skirts” and Simon Henry’s “The Party Dress”

I have been anxiously awaiting the delivery of two sewing books I ordered from Amazon over the weekend. I signed up for text message alerts because the UPS guy is too lazy to ring the doorbell, but I never received it. Luckily, I got impatient and spotted the box on my doorstep.
Sew What! Skirts: 16 Simple Styles You Can Make with Fabulous Fabrics
I’m really surprised that I don’t already own “Sew What! Skirts”. I decided to buy it when I read the Amazon reviews and realized that it teaches basic …

New Vintage Patterns from Etsy!

Look what arrived in the mail today! I purchased 7 vintage patterns on Etsy last Thursday after searching through more than 2,000 patterns in my size until the wee hours of the morning (I know I have issues). I didn’t think the patterns would arrive so soon, so I was pleasantly surprised to find four patterns in my mailbox.
I am in love with Vogue 6258 (1964 dress). The bat wing sleeves are fabulous and I love the skirt’s center pleat! I think this would be very chic and elegant in …
