New Look 6655: Top
Pattern Description: New Look 6655 (View B)

Pattern sizing: This is a multi-size pattern (6-16). I made a size 12.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?
I made this pattern in 2007 when I was a beginner. I don’t remember encountering any challenges during sewing.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I do not like the tie front. The horizontal opening (where you insert the tie) is too wide when the tie is tied and too much skin is revealed, so I had to sew it closed. Also, the top is cut too low and I have to wear a camisole. I also noticed that the tie creates a wrinkle under the bodice.
Fabric Used: The fabric looks and feels like it might be satin, but I’m not sure because I bought the fabric a couple of years ago. Hopefully the close-up photos will provide enough information.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did not alter the pattern, but I slip stitched the opening closed (horizontally) around each side of the tie (after I inserted it into the opening). My waist has expanded since I made the pattern, so there’s some wrinkling in the back.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I have no desire to make this top again, however, I might try the other top (View A) when I run out of more interesting projects (especially since it would cover my upper chest where I recently burned myself while attempting to flip over a piece of fish like a pancake while it was frying in hot grease on the stove….ugh).
Conclusion: I recommend this top with modifications. I like it enough to wear it in public, but it’s definitely not one of my favorite tops. However, I love the skirt in this pattern (It’s quick and easy and I made it twice), so I will post a review.
