New Look 6655: Pencil Skirt

10 July 2010 6 Comments

Pattern Description: New Look 6655

Pattern sizing: This is a multi-size pattern (6-16). I made a size 12.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Oops! I guess I missed a spot while ironing the hem (above).

Were the instructions easy to follow?
I made this pattern in 2007 when I was a beginner. This was an easy pattern and it whips up very quickly. I’ve made two skirts in different colors.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the simple directions and love that this skirt only requires 7/8 yard of fabric in my size.

Fabric Used: I used a very nice wool fabric from Gail K Fabrics in Atlanta for the navy skirt. Unfortunately, I don’t remember what I used for the gray skirt (second photo) because I bought the fabric a couple of years ago.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did not alter the pattern. Even though I am 1-2 sizes larger in the photos, the skirt still fits (I can zip it up :). If I make it again, I will make it one size larger.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I will probably make this again at some point in the future.

Conclusion: I highly recommend this skirt. It is a great wardrobe builder and it’s easy for beginners.

Thanks for the review! I am a beginner and I’m challenging myself to a full week of sewing skirts! This may be a good one to start with. I love a classic pencil skirt!
