New Vintage Pattern: Simplicity 4228

I can’t watch Mad Men without searching for new patterns! Here’s the latest circa 1962! I love the draped bodice and I think it might be pretty if I make the drape and sleeves in lace or a sheer fabric or maybe do some color blocking. I’d love to hear your ideas!

Spring 2012 Vogue Faves

It’s been a year since my last post, so I’ll breathe some life into my blog by posting my favorite Spring Vogue patterns.  Even though I’ve been MIA and haven’t made anything recently, I’ve been spending a lot of time trolling the Internet (and antique stores during my travels) for vintage patterns, reading my back issues of Sew Stylish, and buying vintage patternmaking books (I’ll post about that later).
I’ve realized that I am a very lazy sewing blogger because I work long hours and spend so much time online designing …

Sexy 1960’s Vintage Bombshell Dress Pattern (McCall’s 6998)

Here’s my latest vintage evening dress purchase. Isn’t it fabulous? And it’s even uncut! I think it’s definitely very classy and Va-va-voom despite its simplicity.  I am looking forward to making the cocktail length version one of these days. I need fabric ideas. Please share!

I Couldn’t Resist Buying This 1970’s Vintage Top & Dress Pattern Before Going to Bed

Even though I wrote in my last post a few minutes ago (about the vintage wrap dress I am working on) that I was going to bed, I had the 70’s on my mind, so I decided to hop on Etsy for a quick peek at the latest vintage patterns before hitting the sack. I really liked this cute McCalls top/dress pattern, so I snatched it up.
I think the maxi dress will look cute when I rock my natural hair in a big curly ‘fro.  I’m thinking about altering the …

My Trip to G-Street Fabrics in Rockville, MD

If you’re a seamstress living in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area, you’ve probably shopped at G-Street Fabrics. Consider yourself very fortunate!
I had the opportunity to visit G-Street Fabric Store in Rockville, MD during my recent trip home to visit my parents over the Thanksgiving holiday.  Even though I remember visiting the fabric store with my mother while I was growing up, I didn’t appreciate how fabulous this sewing paradise is until I learned how to sew as an adult.  Since the fabric selection in Atlanta is primarily limited to Hancock Fabrics, Joann …

Spring Vogue Faves

I’ve been looking forward to the new Spring Vogues and it was definitely worth the wait this time. Here are my favorites:
I love this Donna Karan dress! I’m envisioning this in a pretty eggplant color.

This DKNY dress is pretty cute, too, although it sort of reminds me of a bridesmaid dress. Perhaps it’s the taffeta fabric. I wonder how this would look in linen. Thoughts?

I would love to sew this Anne Klein dress! The lines are really pretty, but I think I would avoid using a print fabric to avoid …

Help! I’m Drowning in Simplicity Patterns…

Here are the latest Simplicity patterns I purchased at the $.99 pattern sale at Hancock Fabrics over the weekend. I was disappointed when I got to the first store because the new Fall patterns weren’t in the drawers (shamefully, they were still in the boxes — what a waste!), so I picked up some older patterns for my collection and drove to another store.  I called ahead and asked if they could put a few patterns aside for me, but the cashier said they were doing inventory or something and she …

More Sewing Patterns!

It’s not a secret that I have a weakness for sewing patterns, so it should come as no surprise that I used my birthday as an excuse to stock up at the Vogue, McCall’s, and Simplicity sales. First, I bought six Simplicity patterns at the $1.99 sale at Hancock Fabrics. My faves are the Cynthia Rowley sundress (S2587) and the Project Runway skirt (S2413) with the tie at the waist. I also love S2692’s bodice variations.

I took advantage of the $5 clearance patterns available on the Vogue Patterns web site. …

I Went Banana’s on E-bay and Won Diane Von Furstenberg’s Vintage Wrap Dress Pattern for my Birthday….Yes, Vogue 1549!!! (The One With the Cuffs and Collar :)

I am extremely excited that I won the auction last night and my Diane Von Furstenberg classic wrap dress vintage pattern (circa 1973) is on its way! I love wrap dresses and have had my eye on this pattern for a long time, so I was super excited to find it in my size and in uncut condition just in time for my birthday. Whoo hoo! I’m not sure who was bidding against me, but I’m really sorry you wasted your time because this pattern was destined to be MINE MINE MINE …

Fall Vogue Faves

I’m always excited whenever the new Vogue patterns are released, but I’m feeling somewhat underwhelmed with the selection this time around. Don’t get me wrong–there are quite a few cute patterns, but I’m not overly excited about making any of them. I’m in a sewing slump, so I guess that explains my lack of enthusiasm. Here are my favorites:
I love the drape on this Michael Kors dress!

I’m having déjà vu, but this is a cute basic sheath dress by Anne Klein New York (not that I need any new sheath …
